If the answers is yes, then build the "business plan" of the ROI your firm could get back in return by you spending some dedicated time to revamp some of your BIM content library.
Ask yourself, can I build this family into a design aid tool for my designers? Is there functionality that could be added to automate some redundant task(s) if I spent the time to plan out this family. I encourage everyone to find time to strategically think about your family libraries and what could be possible if you were to revamp the way your families work. Really powerful stuff! Careful planning and skillful execution of Revit families can save your firm hundreds of hours on projects. Matt Nelson of SSOE gave a very insightful class about MEP for fab where he explained techniques his firm is utilizing in their piping families to optimize their design projects and ultimately prepare piping spool fab drawings for the field. Having just left Revit Technology Conference and listening to some great speakers about how they are pushing the limits of Revit technology I found one class really intriguing. When we do take time to properly plan, design, and create awesome Revit families we can really turn a "product model" into a powerful design aid tool for our users. While this is true of most Autodesk Revit families us designers build to fill our company libraries, very rarely do we take or have the time to really push the limits of our content. Many people think of BIM content as product geometry with data embedded.
